Local air cadet squadron has a lot to offer in 2024-25

Captain Nicci O’Grady, Commanding Officer of 225 Taber Comet, Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron shared that they are looking forward to offering fun and exciting training this year in Taber.

“A Welcome Back Barbecue took place on September 4 for current cadets so that they could share their summer adventures and learn what is in store for them this year,” said O’Grady.

 This summer, three local cadets were selected to attend Cadet Training Centres. These cadets developed self-confidence, self-discipline, and leadership skills through activities designed to challenge them. One cadet attended Advanced Aviation, one cadet attended Fitness and Sports Instructor, and one cadet attended Military Band.

 O’Grady hopes to, “continue growing our squadron this year. We will be offering aircrew survival training, air rifle marksmanship activities, general aviation opportunities, museum tours, sports days, and so much more!”

Air Cadets are provided with a foundation in aviation and aerospace related subjects, which includes basic aviation training and familiarization flying experiences. In addition, Air Cadets are provided real and tangible experiences with the Royal Canadian Air Force that they may not have otherwise been exposed to.

“225 Taber Comet was one of many units stood up during WW2 and it is likely that local youth had a family member who spent time in the squadron,” said O’Grady. “We are looking for adult staff and volunteers. So, whether you are looking to connect with your family roots through volunteerism or looking to join our staff as a Canadian Armed Forces Member we want to speak to you.”

The Cadet Program is open to all youth between the ages of 12-18 and provides youth opportunities to develop skills that will last a lifetime including teamwork and communication. Becoming part of the Cadet Program as an adult leader is a choice to serve both your country and your local community.
