The time is now for Town council candidates to throw their hat in the ring.

Vauxhall will hold a municipal by-election on Monday, Feb. 12, 2024, and has one vacancy for the role of councillor. The by-election will give the new council member an opportunity to take an active role in municipal affairs while making key decisions, in the present and for the future.

Mayor Kim Cawley said that council is currently making positive steps forward, and as a result of their recent strategic plan, has a fresh vision and mission for the town. She said the new ‘Vision for Vauxhall’ is (verbatim):

-Vauxhall is the community of choice for people of all ages.

-Combining small town charm with a vibrant business environment, Vauxhall is a safe, inclusive, and collaborative community home to a diverse population, healthy volunteer base, and range of services providing excellent quality of life.

Supporting this vision is the new mission statement: “The Town of Vauxhall works to serve our residents, businesses, visitors, and partners. We provide respectful leadership and take purposeful actions to support our community today, and to achieve our vision for Vauxhall’s future.”

Cawley listed the council’s values as transparency, inclusiveness, stewardship, and consultation, and said, “I’d encourage any resident who feels they can bring value and help us move forward in these areas to put forward a nomination form. Best of luck to all candidates!”

The Town’s website has posted the information and documentation required for prospective candidates on their website under the Local Government-Council Members drop-down menu. The notice of nomination day is Jan. 15, 2024, and paperwork must be submitted by that date.

Municipal by-elections are held in accordance with the Municipal Government Act (MGA) and Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA).

On Feb. 12, the polls open at 10:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. located in the Vauxhall Administrative Office, 223 5th St N.
