Today, Alberta Party Leader Greg Clark
slammed the PCs for not doing enough to protect our river communities and
downtown Calgary. The government has only approved the Springbank Dry Dam
Project.
“We support the Springbank Dry Dam,” said Clark. “But it’s not enough. The
Mayor says it’s not enough. The city’s experts say its not enough and
residents of flood affected communities know it’s not enough.”
The Alberta Party is advocating for construction of either or both the
Glenmore Diversion Tunnel and/or McLean Creek Dry Dam Project. The City
commissioned a study which showed that the Glenmore Diversion Tunnel was
feasible and when combined with Springbank, the combination would offer
robust mitigation to protect our river communities and the thousands of
jobs in downtown Calgary.
“Outside of election campaigns Gordon Dirks has been silent on the need to
protect our river communities and downtown Calgary,” said Clark. “Dirks has
not said if he supports the Glenmore Diversion Tunnel or McLean Creek and
he certainly hasn’t advocated for either one. In fact, Dirks has barely
said anything about the flood. The only thing he’s done is to have a former
high profile flood advocate, Emma Grace May, who now works in the Premier’s
office, issue robocalls and letters to flood affected residents.“
