Coming off that huge tournament win in the States, the U11 Vauxhall Sabres were hoping that would translate into some wins in Central Alberta Hockey League play. The Sabres saw three games on tap this past weekend as they prepared for their final league games of 2022.
First up was a home game against Duchess on Friday night. Unfortunately for the Sabres, Duchess was on a fire and the visiting team skated to a 7-3 win. Jackson Wiest, Quaid Finlayson, and Holden Emelson all had a goal and an assist in the game while Jacob Wamsteeker chipped in with an assist. Chance Crowson was between the pipes and the netminder made 22 saves on 29 shots.
Looking for a bounce-back performance, the team was on the road on Saturday afternoon as they were in Taber to take on the Oil Kings. The Sabres were able to take a lead into the final period, but the Oil Kings would battle back and tie the game late. When the final buzzer sounded, the game ended 4-4. Wiest had two goals and an assist, Emelson had a goal and two assists, Holden Lyon had a goal and an assist, Peyton Honess had a pair of assists, and Cameron Wolfe and Mason Emelson had an assist each. Crowson was back in net, making 16 stops on 20 shots.
The Sabres looked to collect a win in the final game of the weekend on Sunday when they hit the road to Brooks. Despite a good battle, the Sabres were unable fell 8-2 against Brooks.
