Water Repair

Council discussed a recent water issue that was caused by a contractor striking an unmarked Water Commission water-main, which caused an initial leak. Council discussed how in the rush to shut down the leak, a third-party individual closed a water valve too quickly, which caused a water hammer shockwave through the distribution system. That action, Council stated, caused two secondary leaks. One leak, Council stated, was the result of an embedded rock being pushed out of a sealed hole created by a large rock being left in the trench when the original water main was installed. The other leak, Council stated, was a damaged water main caused directly by the water hammer when the pressure hammered the watermain, causing it to crack and leak. However, Council established that the issues were repaired very quickly.

A motion was made to receive the report for information and the motion was carried.
