Wildrose: Jean presents clear vision for low taxes and balanced budget in leaders’ debate

Posted on April 24, 2015 by Vauxhall Advance

Wildrose Leader Brian Jean presented Alberta voters with a clear alternative for low taxes and balanced budgets against what he called the “Coalition for Higher Taxes” during tonight’s leader’s debate.
Jean contrasted the PC, NDP and Liberal plans for overspending and higher taxes on Alberta families and small businesses with the Wildrose plan that eliminates wasteful spending and keeps taxes low for all Albertans.
“I am the only leader here tonight that will not raise your taxes,” Jean said. “Mr. Prentice and the PCs, Ms. Notley and the NDP and Dr. Swann and the Liberals are the Coalition for Higher Taxes and Albertans simply can’t afford them. Wildrose is the only party in this election that is standing up for taxpayers.”
In Budget 2015, the Prentice PCs brought in the largest tax increase in Alberta history. During tonight’s debate, Jean laid out how Prentice’s 59 different tax hikes will cost Alberta families an average of $2,500 a year.
“When times got tough and Mr. Prentice had to make difficult decisions, his response was to raise taxes on every single Albertan,” Jean said. “Wildrose believes in keeping taxes low and keeping more money in your pocket – and that’s exactly what a Wildrose government would do.”
Jean also presented Wildrose’s responsible and vetted fiscal plan that balances the budget in 2017 without raising taxes or cutting front-line services. Wildrose’s phased-in approach would eliminate the deficit in three years by curbing political perks, getting rid of unnecessary managers, and scrapping corporate handouts.
“Our plan is unlike any other party’s plan in this election because it puts taxpayers first,” Jean said. “The Coalition for Higher Taxes wants to balance the budget by taking more money out of your pocket. Only Wildrose will balance the budget without raising your taxes.”
