With the spring season over and school nearing its end, the Vauxhall Academy of Baseball Jets hosted their annual awards night on June 7.

This year saw the ninth annual Celebration of Achievement that looked back at the 2021-22 season and all that was accomplished on and off the field.

“I got back in time, got back late afternoon, and it was good. We had a great meal provided by Barbara and Yukio Kitagawa. Laura, Alice, and the staff did a great job preparing it. It was a good night and it’s a nice way to not just celebrate the award winners, but celebrate a successful season and it was a nice cap to the year,” said Les McTavish, head coach of the Jets.

Plenty of Jets’ players walked away with awards as they were recognized for their contribution towards the VAB program.

Winners included: Karter Andersen (Reno Lizzi Scholarship/ring presentation- $2,000 and a ring), David Stewart (Jet of the Year- $500 scholarship and Kalvin Odland Memorial Award/Leadership/Dedication- $500 scholarship), Garret Smith (Coaches Award/hardest worker in the off season- Custom Rawlings Glove), Drew Lenehan (Inch by Inch presented by Yukio and Barbara Kitagawa- $1,000 scholarship), Brennan McTavish (Scott Hornstra Memorial Scholarship/Heart and Hustle- $500 scholarship), Kayden Hluecka (Wanda Stober Memorial Award/Volunteer of the Year- $250 scholarship), Jack Wheatley and Anson McGorman (Brian Bauman Award- Oakleys and New Balance provided by Sports Connection), Raphael Ranger (Jan Tolton Memorial Award/Best in the Dorms- $500), Riley Pearce and Jared Bendfeld (McLeod Family Scholarship/Excellence everyday that doesn’t require talent- $1,000 scholarship each), Cardel Dick (Reno Lizzi Underclassman Bursary/Adam Nelubowich- $1,000 tuition credit), and Kyle Yip (Reno Lizzi Underclassman Bursary- $1,000 tuition credit).
