The following are select briefs from the Town of Vauxhall meeting that took place on October 7.
Appointment – New Library Board Member
Council discussed a letter sent to them from Lena Martens requesting to join the Vauxhall Public Library Board. A motion was ultimately made that would allow Lena Martins to join the Vauxhall Public Library Board.
Administration – New Arena Booking Policy
Council discussed how there is now a new policy for booking the arena. The policy, Council established, is that new ‘Book Now’ button and has been added to the Arena’s website CatchCorner: https://www.catchcorner.com/facility-page/embedded/rental/town-of-vauxhall-arena on the Town of Vauxhall website: https://town.vauxhall.ab.ca/wp/0, by the new arena manager and it is a booking site for individuals to book time through the website that requires payment at the time of booking. The booking process, Council established, involves signing the rental agreement and putting a secure credit card on file prior to checking out. Once the customer has checked out, Council established, they will be notified whether the arena has accepted the booking, and the payment will be processed only if the booking is accepted.
Council discussed how the new set up gives people an idea of what kind of free ice time there could be. A motion was made to receive the policy for information and the motion was carried.
Organizational Meeting
Council discussed how as per the Municipal Government Act Section 192; a Council must hold an organizational meeting annually not later than two weeks after the third Monday in October. That said, Council discussed how Administration recommended that the 2024 Organizational meeting take place on October 21, 2024, at 6 p.m. and the regularly scheduled Council meeting follow after the organizational meeting concludes. A motion was made that the 2024 Organizational meeting take place on October 21, 2024, at 6 p.m. and the motion was carried.
