With the increasing demand for available Wi-Fi, the Town of Vauxhall has been exploring offering Internet at the Hall for those who rent the facility. Town administration brought forward their thoughts to council during the regular meeting held on Oct. 18.
“Mindy (Dunphy, assistant CAO) and myself have been talking with our IT guy. There were questions about having Wi-Fi available at the community centre for events and such. She was able to arrange that,” explained CAO Cris Burns. “It was just a router they had to put in.”
He also explained at the moment, the hall was accessing the Town office Internet, though they were working on hooking up a new system. Administration also asked if there should be a fee for accessing the Wi-Fi at the facility when people are renting it.
“Kind of like if you check into a hotel — we give them the Wi-Fi and we give them a voucher number. After that time, it no longer works. We can give them three hours, eight hours, or 24 hours,” asked Dunphy.
Council liked the idea of including the cost within the rental fee.
