RE: “Private school funding out of whack” May 3

Posted on May 11, 2023 by Vauxhall Advance

Dear Editor,

The writer of this report makes a comparison between Elon Musk and his airplanes, and private school funding – it does not make any sense to me at all. He says, “so each time a student is enrolled in a private school instead of a public school, $5,000 in funding is redirected from public to private schools”. I read in a government report on school funding, of May 2021, cost per student in public schools is $10,460. The writer of this article says that the private school student receives $5,213. That is a saving of $5,000 per private school student for the taxpayer. I am pleased that the writer says, “sending their kids to private school is a choice”, and yes it is, the Canadian Constitution guarantees Catholics and Protestants a right to education. Also it is so good that these school systems can work together to enhance the education of our precious children. A big thank you for all our teachers and school management.
